ENGLISH GARDEN FARM WORKSHOPS : for 2019, workshops are scheduled only upon request and by pre-arrangement.

  • ENGLISH GARDENS 101

What is an English Garden? Who says? Why are they considered to be the quintessential gardens? Are they really that good? Can you grow an English Garden in Ohio?* What can you do? Lecture with slides from the gardener’s personal collection, followed by a narrated tour of the garden. Plenty of time for questions allowed. *see “Goldilocks”

  • PRINCIPLES OF GARDEN DESIGN with PLANT SELECTION

How important is design to a successful garden? How do you plan a garden, regardless of space? Does size matter? What’s the difference between landscaping and a garden? What commonly used ideas really make no sense at all? How do you know what plants to pick? Does it have to look like everyone else’s garden? The basics of designing for long term success, in spaces from patio to sweeping landscapes. The basic purposes of a garden design and how to get them; what kinds of plants to use to make it all happen. Participants should bring sketches, measurements and photos of their own situations if they want hands-on help. Lectures, inter-active project exercises and narrated garden tour.

  • KEEPIN’ ON LOOKIN’ GOOD

How to start and maintain your garden to achieve maximum results in the least amount of time. Planning for minimal watering and weeding; soil preparation and amendments; pruning, trimming and removing plants; working with the way things are; not fighting nature. Lectures, garden tour, and hands-on practical experience in the garden with the gardener; learning by seeing and doing. Bring your pruners and wear old, comfortable clothes.

COST FOR EACH EVENT IS $50.00 PER PERSON AND INCLUDES COMPLIMENTARY LUNCH.

EVENTS BEGIN AT 9:30 AM AND END AROUND 3:00 PM.

ENGLISH GARDEN AND DESIGN WORKSHOPS ARE LIMITED TO 12 PERSONS PER DATE. LOOKIN’ GOOD WORKSHOPS ARE LIMITED TO 6 PERSONS PER DATE.

Lunches are prepared on-site from fresh ingredients with an emphasis on deliciousness, wholesomeness and healthfulness.

Limited accommodation can be made for some allergies.

Plan to bring your own bottled water, umbrella or shade hat, comfortable walking shoes and insect repellant. (Mosquitos are usually not a problem, but it is best to be prepared.)

Events are held in our air-conditioned meeting room for slide presentations and lunch (when it is hot). Other portions (and lunch when weather is really nice) are under tent or in the garden itself.
