Nothing unlucky about today, Friday the 13th.
The Garden still glories in fall colors. This has not been a spectacular year for fall color; only a few of the sugar and red maples seem to be enthusiastic. But it has lasted for what seems a rather extraordinarily long stretch and has made up for the lack of spectacle by the longevity of its much more subtle and pastel display. It is often easy, especially with the idealized memory of autumns past, to overlook the beauty of the sublime. This year has been an extended lesson in focusing on it instead. Perhaps it has always been there and simply overshadowed by brilliance here and there; I frankly don’t recall. But it is beautiful none the less, whether we noticed or not. This year, we noticed……and fell in love all over again!
